Glenmuir United almost pulled off the shock result of the weekend in the U15 Martin McGee Cup but were beaten by cup favourites Blayney Academy after a penalty shoot-out in Glenmuir Park on Saturday morning.

It was a harsh outcome on the young Glenmuir team who went into the game sitting five positions behind Blayney in the league table.

The Blues led on two occasions thanks to goals from 13-year-old Jesse Nwabueze and Kyle Connolly but the Premier Division champions, who went 19 games unbeaten to win the league, equalised on both occasions to send the game into extra time.

Penalty kicks was the only way to separate the teams after an intense period of extra time was played with defences on top from both sides.

Dara McCann, Conor Eccles, Joshua Wilson, Liam McDonald and Ciabhan Dignam all scored for Blayney while Liam McStravick, Mark Agnew and Kyle Connolly converted for Glenmuir.

The visitors advanced when the unfortunate Benson Chilaka’s well struck effort crashed off the crossbar book Blayney a semi-final date away to Quay Celtic.
