U12 | Sharkey steals the show as Bellurgan advance in nine-goal thriller

U12 Dundalk FC Cup | Woodview 3–6 Bellurgan United

Bellurgan United’s James Sharkey hits the Woodview net in Thursday night’s U12 Dundalk FC Cup game

Bellurgan United advanced to the second round of the U12 Dundalk FC Cup after a nine-goal thriller with First Division champions Woodview in the Fairgreen on Thursday night.

Woodview set about their task from the opening exchanges, taking an early lead through Tony McNally after only two minutes but Bellurgan equalised almost immediately when Jerry McFadden pounced on a loose ball to score.

Caoimhe Magee showed good composure to restore Woodview’s lead when she fired home through a crowd of players but the sides were level again when Joey McMahon ran onto a long ball and beat Seamus McEnteggart with a good strike.

And the visitors went 2–3 ahead when Evan Dunne’s long range effort found the back of the net minutes before the half-time whistle.

Bellurgan continued on the front foot as Woodview’s brave resistance faltered in the second period and James Sharkey tucked home his first goal of the night after a neat passing move involving Thomas McCarragher and Cormac Mallon.

Another Sharkey goal from McCarragher’s sliderule pass made it 2–5 before Woodview battled back to reduce the deficit with a strike from Ryan Finn.

The classy Sharkey had the final say when he completed his hat-trick with another brilliant strike to find the bottom corner of McEnteggart’s net to ensure Bellurgan’s passage to the next round.
