SWIMMING | Jordan causes a splash at Swim Ulster Youth Championships

Colaiste Ris student wins three silver medals

Dundalk swimmer Jordan Byrne who picked up three silver medals at the recent Swim Ulster Youth Championships

Sixteen-year-old Dundalk swimmer Jordan Byrne had a very successful outing at the Swim Ulster Youth Championships recently.

Competing for his club, Aer Lingus, Jordan secured three silver medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke, along with the 400m freestyle.

Jordan recorded a time of 1:01:27 in the 100m backstroke final, some 37 seconds faster than his preliminary time, but he was pipped to the post by Jack McMillan from Bangor Swimming Club.

McMillan also took gold in the 200m final, finishing three seconds ahead of the Colaiste Ris student who recorded a time of 2:13:24.

And the pair battled it out again in the 400m freestyle final, the 17-year-old Bangor swimmer winning in a time of 4:08:13.

Jordan’s fine form has been recognised at provincial level where he represented — and captained — Leinster and Colaiste Ris at the recent interprovincial school competition in Dublin.
