DFC |Striker Cami Elliott leaves Dundalk for Scottish outfit East Kilbride
Dundalk have announced the departure of Cameron Elliott after the striker finalised terms on a move back to East Kilbride in his native Scotland
Elliott moved to Ireland to join the Lilywhites from the same Scottish Lowland League side in January 2023 in an attempt to pursue a full-time football career.
The attacker made a good impression during his maiden campaign in the Premier Division, scoring once and claiming four assists in 26 appearances for Dundalk, while Elliott also made two substitute appearances against Icelandic side KA Akureyri during the club’s short Conference League campaign last year.
Dundalk were dumped out of the Conference League by their Icelandic opponents in the second qualifying round for the competition proper last summer, though their exit didn’t come as a surprise after the Lilywhites were priced as outsiders to qualify on numerous football betting sites.
Nevertheless, in December 2023, Elliott agreed a fresh deal with the club to extend his stay at Oriel Park, though the forward wasn’t quite as impactful during the first half of the 2024 Premier Division campaign, starting just seven times while failing to find the net even once.
Elliott’s peripheral involvement in Jon Daly’s team was undoubtedly one of the motivations behind his move back to Scotland, however, after this transfer was confirmed, Dundalk boss Daly confirmed that Elliott had been targeting a move home for some time.
The marksman enjoyed a prolific spell with East Kilbride before his adventure across the Irish Sea. In his final half season with the Scottish side, Elliott bagged a superb 15 goals in his last 21 appearances in the Lowland League.
Elliott will be determined to recapture that form when he joins East Kilbride’s quest for promotion to the SPFL this term. East Kilbride open their account for the new Lowland League campaign with a home fixture against CS Strollers this weekend.
Dundalk meanwhile, have been installed as underdogs on most sports betting apps ahead of their clash with relegation rivals Bohemians at Dalymount Park this week. After their skirmish with Bohs, Dundalk - who are still positioned in second-last-place in the standings - welcome highflying Galway United to Oriel Park on August 2nd.
