The Dundalk RFC Ladies team that played Tallaght RFC in their first league game on Sunday

There was another big day in the growth of Dundalk RFC on Sunday as the club’s senior ladies played their first league game of the season, at home to Tallaght RFC.

The Mill Road side will compete in Division 4A of the Leinster Women’s League alongside Longford, North Meath, Swords, Tallaght and Tullamore J1.

Managed by Niall Kerley, and coached by Dermot Lennon, the ladies side is the first to represent Dundalk RFC at senior level in a number of years.

Trailing by 17 points at half time, Dundalk came back into the game in the second half. Zoe Martin and Susana Jimenez scored two tries, both converted by Una Pearson, to bring the score back to 17–14.

However, a more composed Tallaght outfit showed their experience and started to pile the pressure on the the home side who put in some fantastic defensive tackles.

In the end, after an entertaining and exciting game of rugby, tired legs kicked in and Dundalk conceded three late tries in the final quarter of the game to give the Dublin side a 36–14 win.
