POOL | Avenue Rovers romp to Tuborg Cup final win against their stablemates

Brady books his place in the individual final

The main action in last week’s Dundalk Pool League was the final of the Tuborg Cup which saw Avenue Avengers and Avenue Rovers meet in a repeat of the league final.

Fearghal Cotter played Wayne Rogers in a tactical first match which Wayne eventually won for Avenue Rovers.

In the second frame, when Wayne potted the white ball on the break, Fearghal played some top class positional shots to clear the table to level the scores at 1–1.

Wayne, however, was always in control and he won the deciding frame to put the Rovers 1–0 ahead.

The second match featured Ger Cunningham and Pat Brady and when Ger ran out of position on his second last colour, Pat potted his six remaining colours and the black to take a 1–0 lead.

In the second frame, Pat broke and proceeded to clear the table to put Rovers 2–0 ahead.

The third match was between Aidan Kinsella and Paul Kelly and in a tactical first frame it was Paul who eventually potted the black ball to lead 1–0.

In the second, Paul looked the likely winner until he got a kick on his second last colour and this gave Aidan his chance to level the scores at 1–1.

In the decider, Aidan looked the most likely winner until he run out of position and Paul stepped in to clear the table to win his match 2–1 and complete a 3–0 victory for Avenue Rovers.

Individual competition

The semi finals of the individual competition were also played where Paul Kelly played Michael Ralph in the first semi-final. Paul was always in control and went on to complete a 6–2 victory.

In the second semi final, current champion Pat Brady played Marty Ferrigan and it was Marty who started brightly by winning the first two frames.

A bad miss in the third frame gave Pat his chance and he made no mistake to clear the table before taking control of the match and recording a 6–2 victory.

The final between Paul and Pat will take place on Monday, May 29th at 7.30pm in the Avenue Inn and will be played over the best of 13 frames.

The final will be followed by the presentation of all the trophies won during the season.
