PATSY KELLY 5K | McKee takes the title as 826 people complete the popular course
William McKee from Mourne Runners was the winner of the 2017 Patsy Kelly 5K Race which took place on Saturday evening.
A total of 826 participants finished the race — 67 more than last year — and a massive 362 more than the first event back in 2012.
Competing in the 20–39 category, McKee finished in a time of 15.20, six seconds ahead of runner-up Mark Hoey (15.26) from Leevale AC and third placed Brian McCluskey (16.07) from local club, North East Runners.
Michael Reilly (16:32) was the first in the male 40–49 category to finish the popular course while Dunleer AC’s Jack McCullagh was the first U20 male runner to cross the line.
North East Runners’ George Shields took the male 50–59 category in a time of 17.17 with Newry City’s Pat winning the male over 60 category in a time of 20:24.
Other local runners to finish in the top 10 include Owen Martin from Setanta Tri Club (17.00), Declan Toal (17:08) and Pat Fitzpatrick (17:12) from Dunleer AC.
Breege Connolly (17:26) was the first female home in the 20–39 category, followed by Anne Linden (19:04) and Eithne McGorman (19:53) from Carrick Aces AC.
North East Runners’ Dearbhla Greene won the female 40–49 category in 20:11 ahead of Balbriggan and District’s Fiona Moore (20:40).
Newry City Runners AC’s Patricia Brown, in a time of 21:23, was first home in the female 50–59 section with North East Runners’ Anita Bolton (21:40) second.
Patricia Mulholland ran a great time of 21:54 to take the honours in the female over 60 female section
Dundalk St Gerard’s AC’s Caitlin Mulholland (21:33) was the first U20 female to complete the course just ahead of her clubmate Orlagh Conway (21:36).
