Pairings drawn for Dundalk Golf Club Winter League final

The finals of the Tiernan’s Centra Blackrock Winter League will take place on Sunday morning with 16 matches down for decision.

Following the fourth round of the league on Sunday, the top 32 players have been drawn to play each other over 18 holes with the top qualifier playing the last qualifier and so on. The pairings are below. The 32 finalists will also be eligible to win the normal singles stableford competition.

The final will be matchplay stableford format with the total stableford points counting. In the event of a tie the higher seeded player will win as there will be no countback. The presentation to the 16 winners will take place at 1.15pm in the clubhouse.

The fourth round of the Winter League was won by six handicapper Niall McCaul who shot a nett 32 points and also managed to return the best gross score of the day with 28 points for the 13 holes. The 13 hole format meant McCaul only had four shots at his disposal so it was an impressive round.

It began with a three point par at the first which was followed by a three point birdie and although he only earned five points over the next three holes he took eight points from the two par-fives on the front nine as he eagled the sixth for four points and birdied the seventh for four points.

Another birdie followed at the eighth for three points and a two point par at the ninth meant he completed the front nine in 24 points.

Three pars at the 10th, 16th and 17th yielded seven points as he only had a shot at the 16th and, although he bogeyed the par four 18th, the point he gained was enough to get over the line in first place.

Another six handicapper, Billy Cairns, shot 31 points to take the Category One honours while Ollie English (12) won Category Two with 30 points and Noel Reid (18) with 27 points claimed the Category Three prize on countback.

The first Golfer of the Year competition for 2017 is the Gold Medal Qualifier which is scheduled for the weekend of April 8th and 9th and the timesheet for both days will open this Thursday, March 30th, at 11am on the BRS System.

Entries are now being accepted for the club foursomes and club mixed foursomes competitions. The entry fee is €10 and entries can be made via the entry box in the club bar. The closing date for entries is Monday, April 17th at 8pm.

The Social Committee have organised Dine With The Stars, a dinner and cabaret show, which will will take place on Saturday, April 1, at 7.30pm. All artistes are members of the club. Admission by ticket only and tickets, which cost €35, are available from the Bar. All tickets must be prepaid and table booking is required.
