NEFL Division One | Woodview 2–2 Black Bull

Woodview Celtic edged closer to preserving their Division One status with a 2–2 draw against Black Bull in Muirhevnamor on Friday night.

The visitors, who occupy fourth place in the table, took the lead early on when a defensive mix up in the Woodview backline ended with Conor McKeever being beaten by the Black Bull centre-forward.

The Dundalk side took charge after that with Dean Browne going close to equalising but they were hit with a sucker punch before the break when Black Bull hit a second to leave Woodview with a mountain to climb after the break.

Player-manager Conor Macken’s half time teamtalk had the desired effect as Woodview emerged for the second half with intent and striker Dean McConnell went very close to pulling one back on two occasions.

It was a case of third time lucky for the striker, however, as he eventually managed to get himself on the scoresheet in the 55th minute.

Some nice build-up play on the right-hand side involving Gavin Macken ended with the ball finding its way to McConnell who unleashed an unstoppable effort from the edge of the box into the far corner.

Woodview were level five minutes later when Conor Macken and McConnell played a beautiful one-two, allowing the Woodview boss to break into the Black Bull penalty area and lift the ball over the goalkeeper.

The hosts went in search of a winner but Black Bull stood form and the game ended with both sides sharing the points.

Woodview remain three points clear of the dropzone and know that a point in their final game of the season — away to second from bottom Kentstown on Sunday — will keep them up.
