NEFL | Quay up to fourth as goals from Vinny and Enya seal the deal in Navan

NEFL Premier Division | OMP United 0–2 Quay Celtic

Quay Celtic moved up to fourth place in the NEFL Premier Division table with an impressive 2–0 win against OMP United in Navan on Friday night.

The Point Road side handed full debuts to new signings Pairic Browne and Sean Hand, who arrived from Bellurgan United and Newry City respectively, while Eanna McArdle also made his first start of the season.

It was the hosts, however, who started on the front foot but John Rogers was relatively untroubled in the Quay goal during the opening stages.

With Shaun O’Connor causing the OMP left-back plenty of trouble, Quay settled into the game and Denis Cholach was unlucky to put a header over the crossbar from a corner.

The breakthrough arrived just before half-time. Centre-forward Aaron Comerford, who impressed throughout, pulled wide and beat two defenders before picking out McArdle who glanced a fine header past the OMP goalkeeper.

OMP pinned Quay back at the start of the second half but they were rocked as Quay doubled their lead when the lively Vinny Smith picked the ball up 30 yards from goal and let fly with his left-foot to find the top corner.

Quay stood up to everything OMP could throw at them with Rogers making a good block to keep his goal intact and Browne making an incredible clearance to stop the loose ball from rolling over the line.

Frustrated by their inability to get back into it, OMP were reduced to 10 men late on as Martin Smith’s men saw it out to jump up the table and take their points tally to 11 points from seven games — just two short of what they collected in the whole of last season.
