MMA | Cobra Kan clean up at CityWest
Local club bag 39 at Best of the Best Tournament
2017 has been a busy year for Cobra Kan, with huge success arriving the Redemptorist based kickboxing and karate club’s way in the past two months.
Twenty-seven of the club’s students recently travelled to the Best of the Best Tournament in Dublin and returned home with an incredible 39 medals!
Cobra Kan’s head instructor, Patricia McQuillan, has worked very hard with her students and the results speak for themselves.
Next up for Cobra Kan was the Kickboxing and Karate National Championships which were held in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin.
By winning the national championships, fighters earn themselves a spot on the national team that will travel to this year’s World Kickboxing and Karate Championships in Orlando, Florida.
The fighter who wins the national championships also earns the coveted title of national champion so the pressure was really on members of the Dundalk club.
Cobra Kan’s team of enthusiastic fighters, ranging from seven right up to 50 years of age, competed at the highest standard on this day.
Each and every student, whether they competed in points, continuous or kata sections, put their heart and soul into their performance on the mats.
Cobra Kan returned home once again with a huge haul of medals and most importantly with every team member earning a spot on the national team.
The club’s instructors couldn’t have been prouder of their students and look forward to putting them through their paces in the run up to the World Championships in November.
As well as competitions, Cobra Kan have been incredibly busy with fundraising in a bid to get as many students to Orlando as possible and recently opened up a club in the Carlingford community.
Seven of the club’s students were also in action at the Carrickmacross Kickboxing Club Fight Night on Saturday, May 27th.
Lisa McCabe, Liam McCabe, Rachel Ruth McMahon, Tiernan Weldon, Lee Kerr, Sarah Gray and Katie McKeown all showed great skills, discipline and respect at the fundraising event. Cobra Kan were very happy to support another local club in their fundraising efforts.
The club has many more tournaments lined up right throughout the summer to focus on and no doubt we will hear a lot more from Cobra Kan’s strong team of fighters.
