LADIES GAA | Line-up for Ladies semi-finals will be decided in the coming days
Blues lodge an appeal with Leinster while Clans and Martins meet on Thursday night
The line-up for this year’s Louth Ladies Senior Championship semi-finals will become a lot clearer after a meeting of the Leinster LGFA this evening.
Newtown Blues have lodged an appeal regarding the appearance of an unregistered Stabannon player in the second round fixture between the clubs on August 13th.
A specially arranged meeting of the Louth Ladies County Board took place 11 days later where a proposal was put to the floor that the Blues be awarded the points, as per Rule 149.
The proposal, however, was not carried with a majority vote taken in favour of a replay. That fixture took place last Thursday night with Stabannon running out 4–12 to 1–15 winners.
The Blues, however, have requested an appeal at provincial level, believing that they should be awarded the points on offer.
The outcome will impact the final standings in Group One. As it stands, Stabannon and Cooley will advance to the semis but if the Blues win the appeal, it will leave three teams locked on six points apiece and the calculators will be out.
Geraldines will meet whoever finishes as runners-up after topping their section with three wins from three. They will be joined in the last four by St Brides, who squeezed past St Kevin’s on score difference.
In the Intermediate Championship, St Fechin’s are through as winners of Group One and will face runners-up from Group Two, the Dreadnots in the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, Kilkerley Emmets topped Group Two but will have to wait on the outcome of Thursday night’s encounter between Clan na Gael and Naomh Mairtin to see who they will face in the semis. They will have to do so without key players, Sinead Woods and Blanaid Callan, who are suspended.
Naomh Fionnbarra currently occupy second place, despite a 6–9 to 3–7 loss to the Martins on Tuesday night. However, a score difference of minus 28 leaves them vulnerable and if there is a winner on Thursday, that club will leapfrog the Togher side into the qualification spot.
The semi-finals are due to be played this weekend with dates, venues and times to be confirmed on Thursday evening.
