Second-half showing propels Clans Ladies to win

Clan Na Gael 4–11 Newtown Blues 1–4

A powerful second-half display saw Clan na Gael Ladies pick up a well-earned league win against the Newtown Blues at Clan na Gael Park on Tuesday night.

Playing against a very strong breeze in the first half, the girls Castletown girls had to put in some Trojan work to curtail the Blues’ scoring opportunity and pressure.

However, with the elements aiding the Newfoundwell outfit, the Clans went in a goal behind, 0–3 to 1–3.

With the strong wind behind them in the second half, the Clans proved to be too strong with Grace Smith, Ciara Woods and Alannah McLaughlin — who hit a brace — all finding the net.

The visitors were restricted to just one point at the other end as the Clans ran out comfortable winners to cap a solid team performance.

Their next outing is on Sunday, April 7th against the O’Raghallaigh’s in Drogheda.

Fechin’s make it look easy against Blues

Newtown Blues 1–5 St Fechins 4–14

St Fechins’ Roisin Kavanagh in action against Newtown Blues

St Fechin’s Ladies got back to winning ways with a well-deserved 18-point victory over the Newtown Blues after an eventful encounter in Drogheda on Friday night.

The Fechins dominated from the start with Sara Moore winning the throw in and Rachel Kinch scoring four unanswered points.

The Blues ladies struggled to breakthrough the Fechins defensive line but scores from a free and a penalty left the teams level midway through the half.

Rebecca Howell, who was also in sparkling form, resolved the situation after striding through the Blues defence and hitting the back of the net to leave the half time score 3–6 to 1–2.

The second half began with a point from Louise McCullough, followed by another goal from Rebecca Howell.

When the Blues won another penalty, Fechins ‘keeper Caoimhe McQuillan made an impressive save.

The home side never gave up and went on to score two points from play but Rachel Kinch answered back by adding another 1–2 to the scoreboard.

Catherine McGlew scored a brilliant point from an almost impossible angle and Louise McCullough ended the game with an exceptional point, securing the victory for St Fechin’s.
