LADIES GAA | Ciara shows her class as the Clans sign off with a win
Ladies Division Three | Newtown Blues 2–11 Clan na Gael 5–18
Clan na Gael Ladies finished off their Division Three League campaign on a high by beating the Newtown Blues B in Drogheda recently.
In what turned out to be a very high scoring encounter, the Clans prevailed on a scoreline of 5–18 to 2–11 with star full forward Ciara Woods hitting 3–8 of the Castletown club’s tally.
In a game that never really got much momentum due to numerous injury stoppages, Kate Hughes grabbed the Clans’ first goal when she made a superb run, took on two defenders and buried the ball in the back of the Blues net.
There was very little between the sides in an evenly contested first half that saw the Blues hit a purple patch 10 minutes before the break but the Clans girls kept their heads, dug deep and led at the break, 2–7 to 1–5.
Supreme kick outs from goalkeeper Mia Rogers and accurate passing between the whole team ensured the Clans drove on in the second half.
A sweet left-footed free from Clodagh Conroy gave them a huge boost and well taken scores from the likes of Ciara Woods and Kathy Reilly, along with a powerful goal from midfielder Shannon McLaughlin, put the result beyond doubt.
Clan na Gael now progress to the Division Three semi final. Their opponents will be decided at a later date.
