LADIES GAA | Championship thrown into disarray as Blues win their appeal
Semi-finals were due to be played this weekend
The Louth Ladies Senior Championship has been thrown into disarray after Newtown Blues were successful in their appeal to Leinster Council last night.
The Drogheda club requested an appeal into a decision made by the Louth Ladies County Board on August 24th, relating to the appearance of an ineligible Stabannon player in the second round match between the clubs 11 days earlier.
Stabannon, who won the game, had reason to believe that the player in question was cleared to play in the fixture and it has been acknowledged that at no time did they try and conceal her identity.
At the meeting on August 24th, a proposal was put to the floor that Stabannon forfeit the game, as per Rule 149, but a majority vote was taken to replay the game.
However, Leinster Council upheld the Blues’ appeal that the County Board erred in not complying with the terms of Rule 149 and therefore have breached the rule.
As a result, three teams in Group One are now locked on six points apiece with the Louth Ladies County Board due to hold a meeting tonight to decide what route to take regarding the semi-final positions.
The knockout stages in the Intermediate Championship are due to take place, as scheduled, this weekend.
