HURLING | Naomh Moninne U14s enjoy their trip to Feile
Local club denied a place in the final by Roscrea
The Naomh Moninne U14 team travelled to the National Feile na nGael last Friday afternoon where they were hosted by Burren Rangers of Carlow.
That evening at Kilanerin they lost 1–10 to 1–1 to Ballynastragh Gaels (Wexford) in their opening game with Conor Murphy scoring 1–1, before beating Castleblayney (Monaghan) by 2–3 to 0–8, Conor Murphy hitting 2–3.
On Saturday morning, Moninne lost 3–4 to 1–2 to the hosts with Conor Murphy again on target with 1–2, progressing to the Shield quarter later that day where they beat Longford Slashers by 1–7 to 2–1 at Clonroche — Conor Murphy (0–5), Cian Walsh (1–1), Sam Phelan (0–1).
Moninne’s hopes of a place in the final were dashed by Roscrea (Tipperary) who they beat the boys 6–6 to 2–1 at Ferns on Sunday morning. Conor Murphy (1–0), Ciaran Walsh (1–0), Fionn Cumiskey (0–1) were the scorers for the Dundalk team.

Results round-up
On June 13th, the club’s U10 hurlers played Pearse Og at the DkIT. The Moninne panel was Luke Haughey, Cathal Maguire, Ciaran Maguire, Ethan Walsh, Mark Byrne, Evan Corrigan, Ryan Heaney, Shane McGuinness Smyth, Luke McCourt, James McDonnell, Matthew McDonnell, Maeve O’Hora, Michael O’Shaughnessy and Aaron Cassidy.
Juvenile training continues on Saturday afternoon at the Fairgreen from 2pm to 3pm with the usual €2 contribution still applying.
Seniors
Also at DKIT that evening, the club’s senior team drew with Castleblayney, 1–18 to 2–15, in the Ulster Tain League.
On Thursday night, Moninne were denied a place in the league final by a late penalty, going down 1–11 to 0–13 against Knockbridge. Scorers on the night were Ronan Geoghegan (0–4, 1f), Diarmuid Murphy (0–3, 2f), Darren O’Hanrahan (0–2, 1f), John Martin (0–2), Tadhg Moore (0–1) and Donal Connolly (0–1).
Poc Fada
Well done to Darren O’Hanrahan who came second in the Louth GAA Poc Fada during the week, just a couple of shots behind winner Gerard Smyth. Well done also to Oisin Drumm for competing at the event.
U17 Celtic Challenge
Four Moninne boys were part of the Louth U17 panel that lost the Celtic Challenge Division Five semi final to Roscommon by 3–15 to 2–12 last Saturday afternoon at the Abbottstown Centre. They were Darren Geoghegan (1–7), Padraic Fallon (1–3), Eoghan O’Hora and Ultan McEneaney.
Hurleys and helmets
The club have new hurleys sizes 22’’ to 36’’ for sale as well as new helmets small, medium and large. Contact Maurice Murphy 0871219251.
Cul Camp
This year’s Naomh Moninne Hurling Cul Camp will again take place in Dowdallshill from Monday, July 31st to Friday, August 4th and the cost of the camp is €60. An All County Hurling Cul Camp will take place in Darver from Monday, July 3rd to Friday, July 7th.
