Horgan and Boyle make their Irish debut
Former Dundalk FC players introduced against Iceland
It was a proud moment for everybody associated with Dundalk FC on Tuesday night when Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle made their debut for the Republic of Ireland in the friendly against Iceland at The Aviva Stadium.
Boyle and Horgan moved to Preston North End at the end of Dundalk’s momentous 2016 campaign that saw the Lilywhites secure their third SSE Airtricity League title in a row, as well as qualifying for the group stages of the Europa League.
And exactly five months to the day since they last graced the pitch at Oriel Park in the 4–1 win over Galway United, both players were handed their first international cap.
Horgan was introduced first, coming on in the 63rd minute to replace Jonathan Hayes while Boyle entered the fray seconds later in place of John Egan.
Both players acquitted themselves well in the final 27 minutes but were unable to stop Martin O’Neill’s side from slipping to a 1–0 defeat.
