The late Seán Maguire

GREYHOUNDS | Sadness on the local greyhound scene by Sean’s passing

‘Scud’ was a popular figure at Dundalk Stadium

Followers of greyhounds, both locally and from much further afield, have been saddened by the news of the death of Seán Maguire.

Seán passed away on Monday in the Louth County Hospital, following a long battle with serious illness.

Seán, or ‘Scud’ as he was known to many people, worked for years in the old greyhound track on The Ramparts, and subsequently at Dundalk Stadium, filling a variety of important outdoor roles.

He had a long association with the longtails, having worked with the late Tommy ‘Tuckser’ Cahill in Chapel Street, and kept dogs himself.

Sean was a very popular figure, and helpful to everyone he came in contact with. Originally from Mary Street North, he lived at Medebawn on the Avenue Road.

The funeral Mass takes place at 11am on Wednesday in the Church of the Holy Family, Muirhevnamór, and will be followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery.
