GREYHOUNDS | Guilfoyle hoping for more Good News at this year’s Racing Post Dundalk International

International is part of a 12-race greyhound card on July 12th

Good News is the selection to emulate his sire by taking Wednesday night’s Racing Post Dundalk International at the local stadium.

Definate Opinion won successive runnings of the big 550 contest in 2010 and 2011 for trainer, Pat Guilfoyle, who also looks after Good News.

On the face of it, his 30.00 trial last week leaves him with plenty to find. He didn’t break well, yet the sectional of 3.94 was okay, and the handler reported he tired close home.

Good News, available at 4/1, should lead up Jaytee Jet and Murrys Act on his outside, and if he can get across the others, won’t give up the rails.

Bubbly Bluebird is a worthy favourite, and there was nothing wrong with his 29.93 trial (3.97 sectional) straight off the boat from England last Thursday.

Trap one is a slight negative, however, and there is not much value in his price now, the 5/2 having disappeared.

He is joined by fellow visitors Murrys Act and Droopys Acrobat, and while it is difficult to fancy the first-named, Droopys Acrobat is tempting at 10/1. He won on this card 12 months ago, albeit over further, and is capable of a lively start.

Pat Buckley is aiming to win the International for the third year in a row after Paradise Silva and Droopys Roddick.

This time he sends Droopys Wilbury, who must bounce back poor efforts in his two most recent races, which came at Towcester.

A 30.44 trial, even on a track marked 0.30 slow (30.14 calculated) does not inspire confidence.

That leaves Jaytee Jet, arriving in decent nick on the evidence of 29.88 and 29.72 (calculated) trials. He can rattle home, and the key for him is getting a clean run around the first two bends.

The International is timed for 8.45pm, and the first of 12 races is at 7pm.
