GREYHOUNDS | Entries sought for Bar One Racing Sprint Cup

Entries are being sought for the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup, which is scheduled to get underway on Friday, July 21st with the final pencilled in for Friday, August 18th.

Racing manager, Margaret Kavanagh is looking for 72 runners for the 400 yards classic, worth €20,000 to the winner.

Last year’s race was won by Ballymac Bigmike, who has been in great form of late as he prepares to defend his crown.

Before the national sprint starts, the Racing Post International will be held on Wednesday, July 12th as part of the traditional dual race day.

Jaytee Jet, winner of the 2016 English Derby at Wimbledon could be in the line-up, after exiting this year’s renewal at Towcester at the quarter-final stage.

The English Derby decider, over the International trip of 550 yards, takes place on Saturday, July 1st; and the Dundalk executive will be hoping to tempt the winner and some of the finalists to the Dowdallshill venue.

Last Friday, there was a local winner in the first semi-final of the Teelan Decorating N1/N2.

Furry Slipper obliged for owner, Thomas Woods and trainer, Henry Holcroft in 22.16. He is joined in the final by Another Melody (Laurence and Brian Jones), runner-up to the impressive Tullymurry Tiger, who clocked 21.63 in the other qualifier.

Final draw (Friday, June 30th): 1 Tullymurry Tiger, 2 Somersault Seany, 3 Furry Slipper, 4 Matts Mourinho, 5 Another Melody, 6 Footfield Blaze.

The final of the Barber Kennels A4/A5 525, which carried a first prize of €2,200, went the way to 9/4 favourite, Madabout Bella (28.61). She won in all-the-way fashion for her Swords-based owners, and Armagh trainer, Sean Devlin.

Meanwhile, the Racecourse Road A6 525 final fell to Derry bitch, Doubleurluck in 29.24. She caught the Jones’ brothers’ Dodgin Bullet right on the line.
