GREYHOUNDS | Carroll Memorial final takes place at on Saturday night

Semi-final winners Flying Flyer and Townspark Gem look set to dominate betting for Saturday’s big race at Dundalk Stadium which is the final of the Paddy & Eamon Carroll Memorial A1 620 which has a first prize of €1,750.

The event commemorates Paddy Carroll, who was a member of Bord na gCon and the Irish Coursing Club executive, and his nephew Eamon, who bred 1994 English Derby winner Moral Standards, and was a well-known member of St Patrick’s GFC.

Last week, Flying Flyer recorded a competition-best 33.99. She is trained by top handler Pat Buckley. Townpark Gem, meanwhile, went around in 34.17 for Athboy’s Patrick Geraghty.

Hopes of a local success rest with the only dog in the line-up, Quandrum, the property of Laurence and Brian Jones.

The field is completed by Dunham Roxy (Martin McAliskey, Coalisland); Jaytee Angel (John Turner, England; trainer Paul Hennessy) and Peregrine Cola (Patrick O’Brien, Navan).

The trap draw is as follows — 1: Dunham Roxy, 2: Quandrum, 3: Flying Flyer, 4: Jaytee Angel, 5: Peregrine Cola (m), 6: Townspark Gem (w).

Friday’s eight-race card gets underway at 9.30pm with the first of 11 races on Saturday at 7.50pm, with the final timed for 9.20pm.
