Concra Wood Golf Club was the venue for the Dunleer Golf Society’s latest outing recently.

The event was sponsored by Wogan’s of Dunleer and Brian Wogan had the pleasure of presenting Andrew Ward with the main prize later that evening in the Dunleer Inn.

Andrew scored 40 points on a day of great golf on a great course. It is also worth mentioning that Kieran McArdle, a long time member of the society, recorded his first category win with an outstanding 35 points.

The other results were as follows — Cat One 1st: Gary Broughton 37 (back nine), 2nd: Vinnie Shearman 37, 3rd: Mark Durnin 36; Cat Two 1st: Kieran McArdle 35 (back nine), 2nd: Declan Martin 35, 3rd: Finnbarr Tobin 31; Longest Drive: Ciaran Reynolds; Nearest the Pin: Declan Martin; Two’s: Denis Palin, Mark Durnin, Peter Flanagan, Finnbarr Tobin and Declan Martin.

The society also played at Ardee Golf Club on August 12th to compete for the Shearman Trophy, sponsored by Alan Shearman.

It was therefore fitting that the overall winner with 39 points was Vinnie Shearman, whom appears to get better as he matures with age. Vinnie was presented with his prize that evening by Alan.

The other results were as follows — Cat One 1st: Pat Lynch 36 (back nine), 2nd: Ciaran Reynolds 36, 3rd: Gary Croghan 31; Cat Two 1st: Ken Brady 31, 2nd: Paul Flanagan 29 (back nine), 3rd: Martin Sheridan; Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin: Ciaran Reynolds; Two’s: Ciaran Reynolds and Gary Broughton.

The next event will be the outing to Bunclody on September 22nd and 23rd, sponsored by the Dunleer Credit Union.
