James Coburn won a medal and cup double at Cloverhill Golf Club

Dundalk’s James Coburn enjoyed a fantastic end to the competitive season as he became the 2017 Gold Medal and Wednesday Cup winner at Cloverhill Golf Club last weekend.

James (17) was the Murphy’s Meigh, Bar and Restaurant sponsored Medal final winner with a nine over par round giving him a nett 62 to capture the Gold Medal.

Coburn was five over for the front nine and four over coming home to finish four shots clear of Miceal Byrne (15) who ended up with a four under nett 66.

A Wednesday Cup sectional winner as well as one of the 16 finalists, James followed his outward 21 points with a home return of 23 for a winning total of 44 points.

He completed the double by finishing two points ahead of runner-up Graham Johnston (23) who could only add 18 points to his outward 24.

In the Singles Stableford Spill Assist finale, a terrific back nine return of 26 points gave Cathal Hughes (18) a one-point win over Brendan O’Rourke (25) with Justin Byrne (12) a further point back in third spot.
