GOLF | Dunleer Golf Society hold their Captain’s Day at Dundalk Golf Club

Dunleer Golf Society held its Captain’s Day at Dundalk Golf Club on Saturday, September 30th. The event was sponsored by Malone Windows and 38 members took part to celebrate Peter Flanagan’s last outing as captain.

The presentation took place that evening in Shearman’s, Dunleer, where Nicky Malone presented Declan Martin with the Overall Winner’s Prize with a score of 37 points.

Peter Flanagan presented Wayne Brady with The Player of the Year award, Terry Ward with The Match Play Winner and Vinnie Shearman with The Match Play Runner-up awards.

The remaining results were as follows — 1st Cat 1: Pat Meehan 32 B9; 2nd Cat 1: Ciaran Reynolds 32; 3rd Cat 1: Ray Moore 30, 1st Cat 2 Peter Grogan 36; 2nd Cat 2: Gary Reynolds 32 B9; 3rd Cat 2: Paul Flanagan 32; 1st Cat 3: Denis Palin 31; 2nd Cat 3: Brian Tenanty 30; 3rd Cat 3: Declan Reynolds 29.

Longest Drives: Declan Martin and Jimmy Mooney; Nearest The Pin: Brendan McConnon and Philip Grimes; Two’s: Ciaran Reynolds and Terry Cotter; Front Nine winner: Terry Ward 19; Back Nine: Nicky Malone 17; Past Captain’s Prize: Fintan McGeough 24; Past President’s Prize: Vinnie Shearman 28; Committee Prize: Turlach King 28.

Peter Flanagan introduced Jeanne Connolly as the new captain for 2018, the first lady to receive this honour in the Dunleer Golf Society. ‘Good Man Jan!’

Bunclody Visit

In 2016, Dunleer Golf Society visited the magnificent Bunclody Golf Course for their annual away outing so it was therefore no surprise that they paid a visit the Wexford course again at the end of September.

Gary Broughton was the Overall Winner of the Dunleer Credit Union Trophy with 33 points. The other results were as follows — 1st Cat 1: Terry Cotter 31; 2nd Cat 1: Turlach King 30; 1st Cat 2: Paddy Bolger 28; 2nd Cat 2: Peter Flanagan 27; Nearest the Pin: Turlach King: Longest Drive: Ken Brady; Two’s: Gary Broughton.
