Nuremore Golf Club
There is a group of young, and not so young, bucks playing excellent golf around Nuremore Golf Club this year.
Darragh Kelly and David Eakin are probably in the vanguard but at the moment there is only a hair’s breadth between them and about six or seven others. They qualified for the matchplay stages of the Junior Cup and that in itself is no mean feat.
Very prominent among that excellent band is Paudie McEneaney. Last week, off the very back tees in Nuremore, Paudie was able to put together 38 points stableford.
Eagles used be rare birds around any golf course but now, it seems, they are 10 a penny. These young golfers are able to reach most par fives in two shots something which used only be in the gift of the real pros.
Paudie had a tap in eagle at the second hole and supplemented it with birdies on the 8th 10th and 12th. Surprisingly he scratched the straightforward 6th and the 17th holes or he would have broken 40 points in a canter. Excellent golf Paudie! Keep it up and all of the young lions will have to keep glancing over their shoulders.
Eoin Sherry has not joined this elite group as yet but rest assured he is heading that way. Anyone that remembers Eoin from his footballing days knows that when he sets his mind to something he gives it his all.
Already he has all the individual skills required and all he needs to do is hone these skills. He is blessed with immense distance off the tee and has most of the other shots but just needs to put them all together in time.
He had seven pars and a birdie in compiling 36 points on Saturday and no doubt he will add to this in the very near future.
On the evening of the Captain’s V the President’s we were warned to keep an eye out for a certain Brendan McGovern. The pundit who warned me said that he would be making the headlines very quickly and that is only 10 days ago! Well with 36 points this weekend Brendan has heralded his arrival in no uncertain manner. Apparently he has a classic swing and a silky touch so the sky’s the limit for Brendan.
