The Punter’s Golf Society held their second outing of the year at Warrenpoint Golf Club on Good Friday, April 14th.

The weather was overcast with a sprinkling of showers early in the day but thankfully it ended dry and warm.

There was a total of 19 players at the start of play. In Category One, the winner with an excellent score of 38 points was Eamonn O’Farrell. In second place was Joe Carroll on 36 points with David Murden in third on 32 points.

Category Two was won by first time winner Shane McArdle on 33 points. Well done to Shane. In second place was Pete Clarke on 30 points while in third place was Ritchie Gartland on 29.

The prizes were presented later in the evening in the clubhouse. Our thanks to the catering staff for a lovely meal after the rounds of golf had finished.

Also thanks to Sevens Taxis for the safe transport of the players that travelled with them on the day.

The next outing is on Wednesday, May 17th at Co Meath Golf Club. The society looks forward to seeing as many players there as possible. FORE!!!

Dunleer Golf Society

Killeen Castle was the venue for Dunleer Golf Society to celebrate Martin Sheridan’s Presidents Day on Sunday, April 30th.

The championship course was a great test for the Dunleer golfers and on this occasion the course won as many of the better golfers fell at the first fence. All will try again in 2018!

The overall winner was Terry Ward. He was presented with his trophy and prize in Shearman’s Inn by Martin that evening. Ray Moore of Hibernia Steel was not available to present

the remaining prizes but he was thanked in his absence for his continued support.

The other results were as follows — Cat 1 1st: Philip Grimes; Cat 1 2nd: Jimmy Mooney; Cat 1 3rd: Pat Meehan; Cat 2 1st: Declan Martin; Cat 2 2nd: Jan Connolly; Cat 2 3rd: Martin McGeough; Nearest the Pin: Gary Broughton; Longest Drive: Peter Flanagan; Two’s: Jimmy Mooney.

The next event will be Beaverstown GC on Saturday, May 27th, sponsored by the Dunleer Inn.

Greenore Ladies

Marian Jordan’s steady 35 points was good enough to claim the voucher in last Thursday’s Open. Helen Reynolds of Ashbourne GC scooped the two’s pot with her birdie on the 11th.

On Saturday last, the second Golfer of the Year competition was won in style by Noreen Craven with a splendid 69 nett. Catherine Woods was runner-up with 76 nett while the front nine went to in-form Marian Jordan with 35 nett while Marian Murnaghan won the back nine with 37 nett. No two’s were recorded.

On the interclub scene, Greenore Ladies’ Revive Active Fourball team, captained by Teresa Sweeney, take on Ardee GC on Saturday next with three matches away and two at home. Best of luck to all concerned!

The Hunter Moore Cup Stableford takes place on Saturday, May 6th.
