GAA Club Round-Up

Ardee St Mary’s | O’Connell’s | St Brides | Naomh Moninne

Ardee St Mary’s

The Ardee St Mary’s Academy returns on Saturday, April 1st at 11am. Boys and girls aged 4–7 are welcome to join in on one hour of action packed fun! This is a great introduction to GAA where the focus is on the child’s agility, balance and coordination through games and fun exercises. The annual fee is €30 per child. No football boots or gum shields required. Kids are asked just to bring water and wear clothes that their mammy won’t mind them getting dirty!

Clothes collection

The club are holding a clothes collection until 11am on Saturday, April 8th and are looking for 10kg bags to be dropped up to the clubrooms. What to donate? Any of your previously loved clothing, linen, curtains, belts, handbags and shoes. Duvets, cushions or pillows cannot be accepted. Drop your donation bags to the clubhouse from now until Friday, April 7th from 9:30am to 4pm and 6:30pm-9pm. Last collection takes place on Saturday, April 8th at 11am.

Dundalk Gaels won €1000 in the draw for the clubs within Co Louth. Out of the 14 prizes on offer, three went to Dublin, two to Derry, two to Galway, two to Tyrone and the others to Tipperary, Leitrim, Meath, Carlow and Cavan. Maybe next year?

U14 Féile

On an absolutely terrible night in Dundalk, the U14s met Clan na Gael in their first game of the year.

The O’Connell’s, who could only select from 15 players on the night, didn’t lack in character against a much more physical side and showed some wonderful courage in the tackles, especially the full back line which was brilliant.

The Bellingham boys went in at half time 2–6 to 0–2 down and faced a huge uphill battle in the second half.

Sean Reynolds hit the net to pull a goal back early in the half but it proved to be his side’s final score and but for some fine saves from Darragh McDonnell things could have been much worse. It was an easy win in the end for the Clans but the atmosphere in the dressing room after the game filled the O’Connell’s management with great hope for the start of the league season ahead.

O’CONNELL’S U14: Darragh McDonnell; Diarmuid Martin, Eoin Clerkin, Andrew Wogan; Calum Woods, Danille Clinton, Killian Wall; Jack Dunne, Tadhg Kearney; Emmett Carroll, Harry Butterly (0–2), Reece Reilly; Sean Reynolds (1–0), Johnny McGee, Jamie Hughes.

There are two GAA Easter Camps in the county this year, one in Dowdallshill and the other in the Newtown Blues. Both are three day camps that take place from April 18th-20th from 10am-2pm for boys and girls aged six-12. The fee is €20 and there will be qualified coaches, camp includes fun games, skill challenge and mini leagues. Children should bring suitable gear for wet weather, football boots, gum shield, plenty of fluids and a packed lunch. Book online at www.louthcandg.eventbrite.com.
