FOOTBALL | Seasiders U13 team does its bit to help local Special Olympics team

Team and management raise over €700 in funding for local club

The Rock Celtic U13 team presented a cheque of €722 to the Dundalk Special Olympics Club at the Blackrock Community Centre at Sandy Lane on Saturday morning.

Over the past couple of months, the Seasiders, along with their management team of Anthony Johnson, Derek Cahill and Neil Smyth, have been raising funds to help send 18 members of the Dundalk team to next year’s All-Ireland Special Olympic Games in Dublin.

The money raised will help towards the cost of transport to get the athletes to the club’s training camps which will be held in Dublin and Kilkenny.

“I would like to thank Anthony, Derek, Neil and all of the players involved on the Rock Celtic U13 team,” said Chairperson of Dundalk Special Olympics Club, Mary McElroy.

“To go to the national finals, the average cost per person is €460. Dundalk Special Olympics has 18 athletes and six coaches/chaperones going to the event so we need to raise a over €11,000 which is a lot of money.”

The club are inviting sponsorship offers for its athletes ahead of the Special Olympic Games in Dublin and would also be delighted for help in any way.
