FOOTBALL | O’Keefe on target as DkIT pick up their first win of the CUFL season
CUFL Division One | DkIT 2–0 IT Tallaght
DkIT picked up their first victory of the CUFL Division One season with a 2–0 win over Institute of Technology Tallaght at Oriel Park on Wednesday.
After a frustrating scoreless home draw in their opening fixture against Letterkenny IT, and the postponement of their second outing away to Sligo IT, Liam Burns’s side were aiming to kickstart their campaign with three points.
The DkIT was able to call on a number of familiar names with Dundalk FC youngsters Georgie Poynton, Carlton Ubaezuono, Gavin Smith and Jack O’Keefe all in his team.
It was the visitors, however, who had the better of the chances in the first half and Tallaght IT would have been disappointed to go in all square at the break.
A much-improved DkIT emerged for the second half and they pulled in front when O’Keeffe, who scored Dundalk’s winner in the Enda McGuill U19 Cup final, fired home at the back post.
Tallaght continued to press and went close to restoring parity on a number of occasions but DkIT secured the win when Blaine Bourke countered late on to make it 2–0.
Next up for DkIT are three back to back away fixtures to complete the Division One campaign.
A trip to Maynooth lies in wait on November 14th. They hit the road again eight days later to face IT Blanchardstown while a date has yet to be fixed for their postponed trip to Sligo.
