FOOTBALL | ‘Dundalk Hawk’ Dessie shows his class in entertaining charity match
Doolargy All Stars Over-35 2–2 Dundalk Legends
Dundalk Legends and Doolargy All Stars Over-35s played out an entertaining charity match in aid of Cuidigh Linn in Muirhevnamor on Saturday afternoon.
The Lilywhites side, which contained some famous names from the past such as Tom McNulty, Dessie Gorman, Peter Cherrie, Mick Doohan and 1995 league winning captain, James Coll, opened the scoring in spectacular fashion.
Shane Reddish, who claimed the Man of the Match award, let fly from 40 yards, his fantastic drive leaving Eamonn Roe with no chance in the Doolargy goal.
The Legends looked to be on their way to victory when Gorman made it 2–0 with a typical finish, ‘The Hawk’ burying a cracking effort past Roe, via the post, from the edge of the penalty area.
Dayser Bond’s side, however, wouldn’t lie down and Tommy O’Hare got them back into it when he headed home a cross from the right and the NEFL Over-35 Cup winners secured a draw when Cormac Woods made it 2–2 with a close range header past Scottish netminder Cherrie.
Refreshments were served afterwards in the Avenue Inn where Reddish was presented with his award by All Stars boss Damien ‘Dayser’ Bond.
