CAMOGIE | St Kevin’s clinch camogie title with win over Mattock

Louth Camogie Final | St Kevin’s 6–5 Mattock Rangers 1–3

The Louth Senior Camogie League final took place on Thursday evening last in Pairc Fechin where Mattock Rangers met St Kevin’s.

This was a keenly contested encounter, played in glorious sunshine in the first half. However, the second half took place in a torrential downpour which made life difficult for the players.

St Kevin’s got off to a dream start, grabbing a goal within two minutes but Mattock fought back to get within a score at half time, the score at the interval St Kevin’s 2–3 Mattock Rangers 1–3.

The second half saw the Kevin’s demonstrate their skill and talent and they stretched their lead despite the woeful conditions. In the end, the Philipstown side ended up deserved on a final scoreline of 6–5 to 1–3.

Both teams are to be congratulated on their preparation, and Mattock being a very young team, can only go from strength to strength.

Lorraine Young, Chairperson of the Camogie County Board, thanked St Fechin’s for making their ground available and for the excellent condition of the pitch.

She also thanked officials from St Anne’s Camogie Club who stewarded the event and thanked both sides for the very entertaining match and all teams who took part in the league. She then presented the league cup to Aoife Gregory, captain of St Kevin’s

The Louth Camogie Championship has now started and no doubt we will see equally entertaining matches across the county.
