ATHLETICS | St Peter’s AC stars do their bit for Co Louth at National League opener
First place finishes for Rogers and McGrane in Tallaght
Round one of the National Athletics League took place in Tallaght on Sunday and there were four St Peter’s AC athletes in action on the Louth team.
Emily Rogers was once again in fine form in the high jump, finishing ahead of her competitors in convincing fashion with a jump of 1.70m. She then took part in the hammer, throwing 19.81m.
Mark Rogers had a strong run in the 400m hurdles, finishing second in a time of 59.44. He then took part in the pole vault where he finished third with a bolt of 2.60m.
Gabriel Bell made his National League debut and finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.03m while Tom McGrane, who was in action in the discus, was again to the fore with a throw of 20.75m to secure a first place finish.
Both Gabriel and Mark ran in the Louth 4x400m team with Gabriel running the first leg in 55.41 and Mark running the final leg in 52.4 to help the team to finish second.
Tailteann Games
Twenty-four hours earlier, Gabriel Bell was in top form again when he represented Leinster Schools in the Irish Life Health Tailteann Schools Interprovincial Games on Saturday.
Gabriel was in action in the long jump and yet again he produced the goods on the big stage, with a leap of 6.42m to finish in second place.
While Gabriel was in action in Santry, the club had Emily and Hannah O’Reilly flying the club flag at the National Pairs Championships in Tullamore.
The girls qualified in the 300m event by finishing second in the Leinster Championships and both had strong runs. Although they finished outside the medals, they both picked up invaluable experience from competing in their first national championships and all at the club are very proud of their achievements.
Training continues this week where athletes will prepare for the upcoming National Juvenile and B Championships.
