With the track and field season ending last weekend, the athletes at St Peter’s AC are now concentrating on the upcoming cross country season.

Training has commenced this week and athletes have really bought into the hard work required and hopefully they get their just desserts with the emphasis on team as opposed to the track and field events which are more individual.

This week, the club is busy preparing for the upcoming Dromiskin 5K which takes place this Saturday at 7pm.

The race will take place through the roads of the picturesque village and is a joint venture with St Peter’s AC and St Joseph’s GFC. It is the third year of the event which was originally started by the Dromiskin Fit Club.

The event has caught the imagination of the village and the roads around the village are constantly busy with walkers and runners for the past few weeks.

Indeed, the event has attracted a big interest from far and wide as runners look to the fast flat course for fast 5k times.

It is hoped that a large number will come out to watch the race as it promises to attract some of Ireland’s finest road runners as well as catering for fun runners, first time runners and walkers, all are equally welcome.

Registration is available online at the St Peter’s AC or St Joseph’s GFC websites or on the day at Cluskey Park. There will also be a number collection and registration on Friday evening from 6–8pm and on Saturday from 3pm.

There is ample parking available at the GAA club and refreshments will be served. There will also be an after party in the Joe’s club house.
