ATHLETICS | Shane inspires his Glenmore colleagues with storming run at DkIT

Glenmore AC’s senior members were well represented at the Louth Intermediate Cross Country Championships in DkIT last Sunday.

The ladies team of Fiona McQuade, Sarah Dooney, Kinga Byrne and Vicky Leahy came home fourth while Shane Lynch stormed home in first place, inspiring seniors and juveniles alike.

Shane was followed by teammates Martin Toner, Donal McMorland, Ciaran Walsh, Kenneth McBride, Patrick White, Tony Ashby, Sean Cummiskey, Cormac Barry, Michael McShane, Kevin Harnett and Lloyd Byrne. The men’s team also took fourth place.

Twenty-four hours earlier, the club’s senior members who are in training for marathons were all getting their long runs in with Gerry Stewart in action at the East of Ireland Run while Stephen O’Connor and Rose White were flat out with relays of helpers on their ‘Tour de Cooley and Omeath’ with Fiona embarking on her long run after the cross country!!

Juvenile Round-Up

Glenmore AC’s juvenile members enjoyed another great day at the Louth Uneven Cross Country Championships at DkIT last Sunday with some wonderful individual and team performances.

First up were the girls U9 in the 600m race with Zoe White taking the silver medal and Sarah Duffy rewarded with a medal for finishing in 10th position. Gillian Touhy, Aoife McDonald, and Sophie Cummiskey also competed strongly.

Glenmore also had a strong U11 girls field in action over a tough 1500m course, taking fourth and fifth team position. Competing on the day were Mia Ashby, Jessica White, Ellen Callan, Grace Keenan, Leah Dunne, Emma McCarragher, Katie McDonald, Aine O’Reilly and Aoife Keenan.

The girls U13s ran over 2500m and were rewarded with a second medal in the team awards. They were led home by Lisa Conlon who ran a very strong race and took bronze individual position. She was followed home by teammates Claudia Mullen, Lucy White, Ava Brady, Ava Ashby, Sarah Mallon and Charlotte McBride.

The girls U15s also ran very well over a 3500m course with Zofia Mullen finishing second and Anna McArdle third. Blanaid Murphy, Nicole Barry and Katie Conlon also finished very strong to secure the girls a gold medal in the team event.

The girls U17s and U19s ran with the senior ladies over a 4000m course with Katie Mallon taking third in the U17 race closely followed by Maeve White in fifth position and Sinead McErlane who took third in the U19 event.

The U9 boys were represented by Ronan Dunne, Mario Liam Gaztambide and Oisin McCoy who all ran very well while the U11 boys team were led home by a very strong run from Elliot Nichols, Craig Touhy, Luke Spain and Aaron Hanratty to take fourth place in the team event over 1500m.

The U13 boys also competed strongly over their 2500m course with James Dunne, Fionn O’Reilly, Shane Gallagher, James Spain and Cormac McCoy representing the club with distinction.

The U17 and U19 boys ran together over the 5000m course with the U17 boys taking bronze in the team event through Ciaran Flynn, Justin O’Hagan and Eoin McCann. In the U19 boys race, Tadhg Leahy took third place and Alex O’Hagan finished fourth.
