ATHLETICS | It was a busy weekend for the athletes of North East Runners
An army of North East Runners athletes took on the Glenmore AC 10 Mile Challenge on Saturday.
Brian McCluskey was the first male home, followed by Raymond Coogan in third place. Strong running by Liam Fergus and Colm Hearty ensured that the club took home the second overall team award.
Laura Matthews was the third lady across the line, helping the ladies team to the overall team award, alongside Karen Caldwell, Aine McBride and Melanie Hearty,
Mourne Way
Elsewhere, Lorraine Dunne was the first club athlete to finish the Mourne Way Half Marathon which also saw Kevin Dunne and Susan McClean fight bravely with the mountains!
Kelly Mulholland and Edele Johnston certainly don’t do things by half! They took on the full marathon on Sunday while Louise Power enjoyed a great run on the 10k route. Congratulations to everyone on a tough day at the office.
Bohermeen 5K
The Bohermeen 5k Road Race saw the speed sessions put to the test with club athletes recording some fantastic times.
Dearbhla Green was the first NER lady home in a time of 20.00 mins and Declan Toal led the NER men home in a time of 17.01 mins, placing them as the fourth men’s team out of 15.
Oran’s Foundation Five Mile
Brian McCluskey followed up his win at the Glenmore 10 Mile Challenge on saturday by winning the Oran’s Foundation Five-Mile Race in Stabannon on Sunday. Declan Toal, who also took part on Saturday, was the second male home.
Blackrock Triathlon
Chris Kelly and Eileen Jordan took on their first Sprint Triathlon in Blackrock on Sunday afternoon.
Fighting against the wet conditions, Chris placed 15th in the male 30–39 category and 40th overall in a time of 1:03:11 while Eileen was the third in her 50+ category in a time of 1:29:19.
Both club members thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are already looking forward to their next triathlon.
Friends of Liam
The Friends of Liam 5k saw another club couple, Karen and Alan Caldwell, race together on Sunday with Karen taking home the prize for the first lady.
Tri An Mhi
Last, but certainly not least, man of many talents Bryan McCrystal won the Tri An Mhi at Lough Lene.
