ATHLETICS | Impressive jump scoops Emily a gold medal in Waterford

St Peter’s AC’s Emily Rogers

Emily Rogers, St Peter’s AC’s top female high jumper, travelled to the annual Ton Le Gaoithe Track and Field meeting in Waterford at the weekend.

The track events are all sprints which, as the name of the event explains, in Irish means run with the wind and attracts a top class field of athletes.

The inclement conditions on the day were not ideal for jumping but Emily, who has just finished an intense block of training and is ready to compete in the upcoming outdoor season, jumped a very impressive 1.75m to earn a well deserved victory.

The Togher native stood proudly at the top of podium and on her current form, it won’t be the last time she stands there this season.

Elsewhere, St Peter’s AC’s younger athletes returned to training after their fantastic performances in the Louth Championships and are now preparing for the upcoming Leinster Championships.

The next event will be the Leinster Relay Championships which take place in Leixlip this Sunday. The club will have three teams compete, two girls teams at U12 and U13 and a boys U13 team also.

Congratulations also go out to the St Peter’s National School five-a-side soccer team who became Leinster Champions last week and now go forward to the national finals which take place on May 31st in the Aviva Stadium. St Peter’s AC have two athletes on the school panel.
