ATHLETICS | Hallie blazes to gold at Mountpleasant AC Road Race

With the chocolate put away for another year, a small group of Ardee & District AC athletes headed north of the county for the annual Mountpleasant Road Race on Easter Monday.

With medals up for grabs for the first six in each race, first up for the club was Jessica McCarron who moved up to compete in the U10 600m, finishing just outside the medals.

The club’s U10 boys 600m had a great run and were rewarded with Arthur Sands finishing fourth and Dylan McCarron fifth. In the boys U12 800m race, Jack McCarron and Charlie Sands also ran well, just missing out on a medal.

Hallie Sands got off to a great start in the U14 girls 1200m, finishing first with a great sprint ahead of clubmate Samantha McCarron who came hot on her heels in fifth while Rebecca McCarron just finished outside the medal positions.

At U16 level, the boys and girls ran together in the 1500m race where Abbie Sheridan stormed to a first place finish.

Before the 5k Races began there was a Tiny Tots 100m Race where young Frank Sands took part. Well done Frank!

The day finished with the Sean Craven 5k Road Race where Tracey McCarron was the sole Ardee & District AC athlete to compete over the new course.

Well done to all who competed and to all involved in a well organised event.
