ATHLETICS | Glenmore AC’s U10s pave the way for a successful day in Drogheda
Seven Glenmore AC teams travelled to Drogheda for the Louth Cross Country Relay Championships last Sunday and it proved to be a very successful day for the club.
In perfect conditions on a bright, cold, crisp morning the club’s U10 girls paved the way for a great day out as Emma McCarragher, Katie McDonald, Grace Keenan and Jessica White took the silver medal.
The U10 boys race was a tighter affair with the medal positions changing throughout the race. The Glenmore team of Elliot Nichols, Craig Touhy, Mario Liam Gaztambide and Cian Magee finished strong to claim the bronze medal.
The U12 girls team of Lucy White, Ellen Callan, Mia Ashby and Ava Ashby also took the bronze medal while the U12 boys, Eoin Callan, Luke Ryan, Cormac Mc Coy and Shane Gallgher had tough opposition and finished just outside the medals.
The U14 girls ran well, finishing third. The team was Lisa Conlon, Ava Brady, Emily Touhy and Blathnaid Murphy.
The U16 girls and boys ran together, with the boys team of Niall Brady, Darragh Brady, Ciaran Flynn and Eoin McCann finishing in second position, pipped in the last 100m.
The girls team of Katie Conlon, Ciara Quinn, Nicole Barry and Anna McArdle also finished in second place to complete a great morning’s running by everyone.
The women’s and men’s senior events followed and Glenmore had a strong contingent in the 10,000m race.
Shane Toner was first Glenmore man home in fourth position, followed by teammates Shane Lynch, Ciaran Walsh, Paul Savage, Kenneth McBride, Patrick White and Tony Ashby. Well done also to Cormac Barry, the junior cross country winner.
