ATHLETICS | Evergreen McGrane wins national bronze for St Peter’s AC at Masters Championship
The National Masters Championships were held in Tullamore on Sunday last where the evergreen Tom McGrane was as ever present to fly the flag for St Peter’s AC.
Tom again finished on the podium by winning bronze in the Over-50 shot putt with a putt of 9.88m.
He also took part in the discus where he put in a decent performance with a throw of 23.60m to finish eighth and also competed in the hammer where he had a below par throw of 16.95m to finish fourth. Nothing, however, could overshadow Tom’s satisfaction at collecting a national medal.
National U23 Track and Field Championship
The same venue played host to the National U23 Track and Field Championships last Saturday where St Peter’s AC’s Mark Rogers put on a fantastic brace performance in the 400m hurdles final to finish in second place.
Mark tore down the home straight neck and neck in what turned out to be a two-horse race only to lose out by the narrowest of margins.
However, Mark can be really happy with himself as he hurdled perfectly and the standard is really high in this exceptionally tough discipline. He gave it is all and finished in a time of 56.5 seconds to earn a much deserved silver medal.
