ATHLETICS | Dunleer AC ladies take top spots at Leinster Road Race

Dunleer AC ladies took the top spots in the Leinster 3km Road Race in Gowran, Co Kilkenny on May 1st.

Karen Costello finished second overall in 10.48 and first Over 40 while clubmate Nicola Welsh finished fourth overall in 10.49 and first Over 35.

Jacqueline Matthews was sixth Over 45 and together the ladies brought home silver club medals and bronze county medals. A great afternoon’s work!

Pre-Louth Championships

Dunleer AC juveniles were in great form at the Pre-Louth Championship competition in the Lourdes Stadium on Saturday last, with the youngsters participating in a range of events at this very enjoyable competition.

There were many great performances but some standouts on the day included Conor Brennan who was a convincing winner of the U9 300m in 55.2 seconds and the long jump event. Conor also placed 3rd in the U9 80m sprint, bringing his medal tally to three.

Erinn Leavy was another star performer with a time of 1.47 in the U12 600m which secured her a gold medal. She added a sprint silver in the 80m for good measure.

Other winners for Dunleer AC were Anthony Dillon in the boys U17 100m, Conor Matthews in the boys U17 800m and Karlis Kaugars in the U14 shot putt.

Silver medals went to Aisling Gormley in the U8 60m, Jamie O’Brien in the U8 80m, Seán McEvoy in the U14 100m, Vanessa Brennan in the U12 600, Patrick Farrell in the U14 800m, Neal Hodgins in the U17 800m, Aeyla Orr in the U15 long jump and Niamh Matthews in the U14 shot putt.

Bronze medals went to Matthew Fitzpatrick in the U12 600m, Grace Fitzpatrick in the U14 100m, Carol Ann Logue in the U14 shot putt and Tadhg Reilly in the U14 shot putt.

All of the athletes performed very well with fourth places for many including Lauren Egan, Aibhe Reilly, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Joe O’Brien and Sally Sheridan and a great number of juveniles qualifying for finals.
