ATHLETICS | Dunleer AC gearing up for club’s annual road race

Event takes place on Sunday, July 16th

Dunleer AC is looking forward to hosting the club’s annual road race on Sunday, July 16th.

The race is held in memory of Ollie Brennan and Seán Carrie, two committee members who passed away in recent years but who were very active in promoting athletics in the area and were club stalwarts for many many years.

This year’s race will be bigger and better than ever, kicking off at 3pm on on Dunleer’s Main Street. There will be a beautiful finisher’s medal for everyone as well as a custom made t-shirt for the first 400 people who enter. You can enter online at www.athleticsireland.ie

The club would like to thank their generous sponsors — Pat’s Gift Shop, Centra Dunleer, SureFit, Celtic Testing, Duprint, McGooey Pharmacy, Paul’s Gents Hairdresser, Shearman’s, Glen Dimplex Group, O’Neill’s Bakery, Rachel Removals.

At the National Junior and Masters Championships in Tullamore last weekend, Santis Kaugars was a double bronze medalist with third place in the javelin and the 56lb for distance.

Santis is a valued member of the coaching team at Dunleer AC and his athletes and fellow coaches are very pleased that he has had this national success.

Dunleer AC host a summer athletics camp for Athletics Ireland, for 6–13 year olds at the Lourdes Stadium in Drogheda from July 10th-14th from 10am-2pm each day.

There will be lots of fun running and jumping games as well as some science and athletics quizzes and art activities. The Irish Road Safety Authority will be sending a representative to do some activities on road safety for children on Thursday.

Children should be registered in advance on the Athletics Ireland website www.athleticsireland.ie.

The cost is €50 per child with €10 reduction for children from the same family. The fee includes a free t-shirt, water bottle, spike bag, medal and a certificate, an AAI membership if child is not already a member.

This camp is open to all children regardless of their membership to a particular club. For more information call Jacqueline Matthews at 0876482373.
