ATHLETICS | Another successful weekend for St Peter’s AC siblings
The Leinster Senior Track and Field Championships took place in Tullamore on Sunday last where the Rogers family double act was again to the fore.
Emily, who seems to be standing on top of a podium every weekend at this minute in time, was once again standing on the top spot after winning the Leinster senior women’s high jump.
Her younger brother, Mark, who is starting to show the form everyone connected with athletics in Louth knew he was capable of was also a very impressive winner in the senior men’s 400m hurdles. This is an event that takes both great technical ability and endurance, both of which Mark has in abundance.
The All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships took place the previous day in Morton Stadium, Santry, where the extremely multi-talented Gabriel Bell was in action in the intermediate boys long jump. Gabriel put in an excellent performance to leap to a new PB of 6.46m to finish in fourth place.
On Sunday, the finals of the Louth Community Games took place at the Lourdes Stadium in Drogheda where the Litchfield brothers, Mark and Conor, were in action, representing Kilcurry.
Mark, who was running out of his age, finished fourth in the 800m but Conor appeared out from his brother’s shadow to win gold in the boys U12 600m and will now go forward to the National Community Games to represent Louth.
It’s a busy week ahead for the club. Today, the Leinster Team Event took place in Tullamore and the Leinster Juvenile Championships takes place next Saturday.
