NEFL | Conroy aiming to bring the glory days back to Glenmuir after taking over in the hot seat
Former Bellurgan United manager will be assisted by McArdle
Wayne Conroy is hoping to bring the glory days back to Glenmuir after being appointed as the club’s new manager.
The former Woodview Reserves and Rangers boss takes over from Kevin McArdle — who will stay on as first-team coach — just two weeks after parting ways with Bellurgan United.
Glenmuir have suffered a poor start to the season, sitting just one point above basement side BJD Celtic after losing seven of their eight games to date in Division Three.
Conroy, however, has experience of the lower divisions after guiding Rangers to three back-to-back promotions and he feels he has what it takes tools to guide the Hoey’s Lane club out of trouble and up the table.
“I’m delighted to be back involved so quickly,” he told Dundalk Sport. “It’s nice to feel wanted and I’m really looking forward to our first match against Lourdes Celtic this weekend.
“Glenmuir have had a tough start to the season. The squad is very young but the aim is to keep them up, go on a good cup run and build for the future.
“I know my my way around the third division from my time at Rangers and I’m confident that we can get a couple of wins together and go from there.”
The Blues rejoined the North East Football League last season after a five-year absence. Prior to that, they were one of the league’s shining lights, winning the Premier Division title in 2008 and the Tully Bookmakers Challenge Cup a year later under Alan Clarke.
“The club has some of the best facilities in the area and have done for quiet some time so I’m really excited and the long-term aim is to restore the glory days from not so long ago.”
